Passion in the Creative Field: Musicians and DJs

For those in the creative industry, such as musicians and DJs, the highs and lows can be particularly challenging. The initial spark that fueled the desire to go to music must be preserved to weather the storms of criticism, rejection, and self-doubt.

You have to be prepared to navigate the highs and lows of this business. Don’t think you need to be like anyone else as there is no template to be successful in this line of work, personalize your art by infusing it with your unique perspective. Then please, I beg of you, stay humble. If you do become successful in this and you can do this as your full-time gig where you can support yourself and your loved ones remember why you started all of this as that should keep you grounded, preventing the pitfalls of arrogance and complacency. If you got into this to be rich and famous and produce horrible music and you fell into some lucky narrative, one day you’ll go away so true passion and someone entering this arena for the right reasons will take your place.

Use Passion as a Compass in Your Career

Whether you’re a manager of acts, or a support professional working at some capacity working with artists, remembering your initial passion is crucial. It not only fuels your personal journey but also affects how you interact with others in the industry.

Leadership is a major thing in this business. As a leader, your passion can inspire those around you, lead by example, and encourage others to find purpose in their work. So do check yourself leaders and make sure you are also here for the right reasons. Longevity is the go-to plan I have held strong to as nothing is something that occurs overnight unless you gamed the system in some shape or form. A lot of artists are very influential so you have a responsibility to be their compass to make sure they are making the correct moves to hit this longevity stride. You have to balance ambition and work in humility. Always strive for success, but remember your roots. My roots stare me in the face every day, I came from the warehouse parties of NYC and I still smell those smells and feel the vibe of those events that brought me here today. I remain authentic today as I feel like I have a responsibility to keep that vibe and my roots alive which is all fueled by my passion and the people I met at the beginning of my career.
